Multiplex tissue image of the month - SHC2 in pancreas

News image of the month March 2026 SHC2 pancreas 56.PNG

The protein expression of SHC adaptor protein 2 (gene: SHC2) within alpha cells of endocrine pancreas is explored with multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC/IF) in the latest update of Human Protein Atlas.

Alpha cells are glucagon-producing cells within the islets of Langerhans in pancreas that play a major role in regulating whole-body glucose homeostasis by counteracting the effects of insulin. Using the mIHC/IF-based pancreas panel, protein expression in the various specialized endocrine cell types of the pancreas can be mapped. SHC2 - an adapter protein involved in cell signaling - shows localization (green) in the cytoplasm of alpha cells (cyan). Other visualized cell types include beta cells (magenta) and delta cells (yellow).
