RGS5 is mainly located in the synapse. Diffuse-synaptic immunoreactivity is noticed in multiple brain regions, including glomerular/external plexiform layers of the olfactory bulb, 'prefontal' cortical areas, cingulate cortex, lateral septum, caudate putamen, anterior hypothalamus, periaqueductal gray matter, cerebellar molecular layer. Very strong peri-somatic synaptic staining (depicting the shape of somas) is noticed around the mitral cells in the bulbus, some layer V neocortical neurons, subicular neurons, in some thlamic nuclei and in some medullar/pontine nuclei.
