Multiplex tissue image of the month - BPIFB2 in salivary gland

News image of the month November 2024 BPIFB2 2.PNG

The mucus acinus-specific expression pattern of BPI fold containing family B member 2 (gene: BPIFB2) in salivary gland is highlighted by multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC/IF).

New additions to The Human Protein Atlas include the mIHC/IF-based exploration of protein expression in the salivary gland. BPIFB2 - part of the BPIF gene family of salivary-associated excreted antimicrobial proteins - is specifically localized (green) in the cytoplasm of mucus acini (white). Other visualized cell types/structures include serous acini (cyan) and large ducts (red).
